9. until 11 August 2024 - Full program around "Rhine in Flames"

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, a festively illuminated convoy of ships will once again set sail from Spay to Koblenz; the Middle Rhine Valley will present itself in a radiant sea of firework lights. Tens of thousands celebrate exuberantly on the banks of the Rhine.

As in previous years, Rhine in Flames will be framed by a varied program of events from 9 to 11 August. Rhens celebrates its summer festival on Saturday, Braubach offers a program from Friday to Saturday. Spay, Lahnstein and Koblenz even celebrate for three days.

Initial program information can be found online at www.rhein-in-flammen.com.

The firework displays in Spay, Rhens, Braubach, Lahnstein and Stolzenfels are expected to go ahead this year due to weather conditions. Things are also looking good for the fireworks display over the Festung Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz, which will be the festive highlight and finale of Rhine in Flames on Saturday.

"We are in constant communication with the relevant safety authorities. Due to the extensive rainfall in recent weeks, they see the situation as relaxed," says Claus Hoffmann, Managing Director of Koblenz-Touristik GmbH.

This also applies to the boat convoy: "Not too much and not too little water in the Rhine - all 29 registered boats can sail."

Sustainability plays an important role in the implementation of the event: Fireworks partner NICO Europe is constantly developing its products in the context of sustainability. The fireworks used are largely low-noise and plastic-free. In addition, all unavoidable CO2 emissions from the fireworks are offset. This means that the Rhine in Flames fireworks display is CO2-neutral.

This year, Koblenz-Touristik is also the overall organizer of Rhine in Flames between Spay and Koblenz. For the first time, it is therefore not only responsible for the land program in Koblenz, the Koblenz Summer Festival, but also for the boat convoy and the fireworks in the valley.

"This will not be noticeable for our guests. It's just about the organization in the background. Here we are in close coordination with the other municipalities and Romantischer Rhein Tourismus GmbH," Hoffmann continues.

Rheinland-Pfalz-Tourismus GmbH withdrew from the role of organizer last year. A new operating company, consisting of the neighboring municipalities, is currently being founded. This company will support and develop the format in the future. Initial talks on a possible expansion to include a drone show have already taken place this year.

Commenting on the importance of Rhine in Flames, Hoffmann says: "Rhine in Flames has enormous potential and is one of the first events that comes to people's minds, both nationally and internationally, when they think of events on the Rhine or in and around Koblenz".

This year, up to 140,000 guests from all over the world are expected to attend the Koblenz Summer Festival in Koblenz alone. The event partners of Koblenz-Touristik offer a cross-genre and cross-generational program with live acts by various artists, the popular fairground and many other cultural offerings in eight event areas.

The complete program for all three days of the Koblenz Summer Festival will soon be available at: www.koblenzer-sommerfest.de.

Arrival and departure

If at all possible, Koblenz-Touristik asks you not to drive your own car into the city center. The number of parking spaces is limited. It is much more relaxed and environmentally friendly to travel to and from the event by bus and train. Free Park & Ride facilities have been created especially for Saturday at Rhein in Flammen. Parking spaces are available in Metternich, Moselweiß, Rauental, on the Oberwerth / CGM Arena and on the Karthause. Details can be found at www.koblenzer-sommerfest.de/an-abreise.

For Koblenz residents, the easiest way to get to the event is still on foot or by bike. For the first time, there will be a supervised bicycle parking area for cyclists. It will be set up in the street Am alten Hospital in the courtyard of the Jakobuskapelle.

After the end of the fireworks, a large crowd is expected to board the buses and trains that leave immediately afterwards. The program has been extended until 00.00 a.m. to help ease the crowds, and all food and drink stands will be open until 02.00 a.m. on Saturday night. Enjoy the exuberant atmosphere at the Koblenz Summer Festival even after the fireworks and take advantage of the extensive local transport services until late into the night!

SWR television broadcasts live from 8.15 p.m

From 8.15 p.m., SWR will be broadcasting Rhine in Flames live from Spay to Koblenz and the Constance Lake Night Festival in a full-length fireworks show. In addition to the locations on land, SWR will also be reporting directly from the ship again this year.

Together with the main sponsor, the Bitburger Brewery Group, the sponsors evm - Energieversorgung Mittelrhein, siseva Sicherheitsdienste GmbH, Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe, Rhenser Mineralbrunnen GmbH, Moselbad Koblenz, SMART e.V. and the media partner SWR, Koblenz-Touristik is looking forward to the Koblenz summer festival with "Rhine in Flames".
